Meet Your Hall of Famer: Carlos Chantres

 

Bio:   Carlos Calles was born in Nigua, DO (Pop. 40, 589, 23 km Southwest of Stanto Domingo).   He had a stellar youth baseball career where he was the winning pitcher of the Little League World Series Championship game.  Then he played on the Dominican Republic JR Olympic Team.  He was on these teams with fellow Hall of Famer Carlos Calles.

Scout Dean Phillips- “Tremendous all-around pitcher. Above average in control and velocity. Extremely tough on righties and his sinker plays down in the zone.  Has the making of an All-Star.  Only knock is he tires easily and cannot throw more than 60-70 pitches.”

Manager (bigdog): “Chantres was the cornerstone of our championship teams.  He was the best of a great pitching staff and could shut down anyone.  The team had a feeling of we were going to win when he took the mound.”

Career: Carlos Chantres was an international signing during Season 37 by Fargo (thebigdogs).  He played for the Fargo organization for 18 seasons.  He then played for Ottawa, Vancouver, and Helena for his final 5 seasons. He made his Major League debut in Season 40 when he won Rookie of the Year and the Cy Young in his first season.  He ended up winning 7 Cy Youngs (40, 45, 47, 49, 50, 51, 52) and 4 World Series Rings (47, 48, 49, 51) to go along with 10 All-Star appearances.  His best season was in Season 51. In that year he threw 173 innings, and posted a 1.04 era, .182 avg, .87 WHIP had 171 K’s, and was 17-0 on the year.  Over his career he racked up stats of 304 wins, 25 saves, 2608 K’s, .196 avg, .97 WHIP, 2.16 ERA over 2805.2 innings.  He holds the World Records for a single season in Opp. Avg. .157 (50), ERA 1.04 (51), WHIP .77 (50), and Wins 35 (49).  He also holds the World Career Records of opp avg. .196.
