Another Saturday night drinking with scouts at the Barleymoe
Tonight Elijah Craig is joined by Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, and George Dickel

Elijah: Fellas I've been lookin back at the beginning of the league and comparing it to last season. I'm                    curious if you guys can guess how season 1 compares to season 48.
George: Baseball is baseball , Elijah, it is timeless. You're going to get some fads from time to time but over a 162 game season things are going to be very similar.
Jim: In season 1 it's like every team is an expansion team. I'd think you would see a lot of runs                 scored. I would think the pitching and the defense would be pretty raw.
George: It's a game people have been playing their whole life. See the ball hit the ball. Nothing has changed.
Jack: Certainly not your intellect George, you really think that a league with all new managers is going to be the same as a league with experienced managers. 7 of those guys were one year wonders; 2 of those won their division.
Elijah: Before we have another Jack and George shouting session. Lets get specific. Do you think that we steal more bases now or in season 1.
Jim: I know it wasn't the first season but didn't someone early have a season where he stole 123 bases.
Jack: That was Austin Lorraine, and he did it twice. In both season 2 and 4 he stole 123 bases and was only caught stealing 1 time each season.
Jim: That would be pretty conclusive evidence that we probably don't steal as many bases as we used to.
Elijah: I thought that too, until I looked at the stats. In season 1 the average was 96 stolen bases per team. In season 48 the average was 136 steals . So we are stealing a lot more bases lately.
George: How about homers Elijah, since you've done the research.
Elijah: Not so easy boys, I'm not giving up the facts with out your opinion of where the league is going.
Jack: That isn't very hard Elijah, back in the day Stickballers had Jose Johnson he still holds the season record for most homers. In the early years there were a lot more homeruns hits.
Elijah: Usually the league averages over 200 homers per team; a figure that has only been reached twice since season 40.
George: So speed is more a part of our game now which explains why Gabriel McKain is closing in on 1000 stolen bases.
Jack: If you are a believer in analytics the stolen base is a bad move and we should be scoring fewer runs.
Elijah: Absolutely right Jack. Eleven times the League has averaged 800 or more runs. The last time was in season 32.
