Another Saturday night at the Barleymoe
This week Elijah is joined by George Dickle, Jack Daniels and Jose Cuervo
Jose: Elijah, why is it that the only time I'm invited is when you have George and Jack. They hate each other and all that happens is shouting and yelling.
Elijah: Jose your girl Maria told me you're hard of hearing. At least this way I know you will participate because you can hear the conversation.
Jose: Elijah, you need to try harder if you want to be funny. Maria was along time ago, at least Tuesday.
Elijah: Anyway fellows I thought we would discuss teams that at this point in the season are doing much better than the previous season(47).
George: Well I'm going to start with talking about Tacoma. The new owner, sweetsalve, has really turned around that franchise. Last season the team was in Scottsdale and had a .414 winning percentage. This season in Tacoma the winning percentage is .557.
Jack: It's just like you George to bring up the second place team, like your second place Tennessee whiskey.
George: Watch it Jack. Tacoma is one of two teams with over a 10% increase in winning percentage.
Jose: And the other team is?
George: New York.
Jack: You still can't get it in your head that renrog has won the McBain award two straight seasons and is finally on the brink of controlling that division.
Elijah: Before you two start screaming at each other, Jose you know tmfan really well; how has he turned around the New York franchise?
Jose: It is an amazing turnaround. Most of the pitchers are greatly improved, maybe they are finally taking pitching coach Stephen Galloway's ideas to the mound. It's almost the same staff but most of the pitchers getting much better results this year. Pretty much the same thing at the plate although Parnell and Arias seem to be having career years.
Jack: One of the interesting things about Santa Cruz is that they changed their bench coach, pitching coach and hitting coach in the off season.
Elijah: Well that worked out well.
George: Santa Cruz wasn't the only team to change out the top coaches ; Tacoma did it also.
Elijah: So maybe more teams should change coaches in the off season.
Jack: I doubt that would work but it seems odd that I can't think of a major off season move that Santa Cruz made that caused their surge. The one big signing they made is still adjusting to the new ball park.
George: That isn't really the story in Tacoma. sweetsalve added through trades and free agency 7 players with combined salaries of 47.9 million dollars. He rebuilt that team and they are much improved from last year.
Elijah: Well if there was just one way of building a team this wouldn't be very interesting. Anyway it's late tonight, hopefully we can check get out the National league soon.
